Carrying out my GAME plan

After reviewing my GAME plan I realized that in order to complete the plan in its entirety I will need a variety of resources. First, I will need to provide my students parents with access to the proper internet sources. In order to do so, I need ample computer access. By doing this I automatically improve my students capabilities of being successful. I will also need the assistance of the library specialist to help with resources, another teacher to assist in forum development and video conferencing.

I have taken several steps in years past to begin to integrate parental support into my technology curriculum. I have provided parents with seminars to allow them to understand the tools we use in the classroom. My next step is to understand the national technology standards in order to incorporate them into my work.

I hope to be able to find the information and acquire any skills needed before the beginning of the next school year.

  1. Giving parents access to computers is a wonderful thing and can really help the students to learn at home as well. How are you going to do that? If they do not have access at home do you plan to tell them about the library or open your classroom after school hours? This seems like a difficult task. I hope you can figure out a way to do it! If you do, let me know because I would love for all of my parents to have access. Technology is a great way to communicate with parents as well. I am planning to begin a class blog for parents to use and see what we are doing in class each week. I hope I can make it as cute as some of the other teachers out there! This would be pointless if my parents did not have access though. Good Luck!

  2. Hi Nicole,

When parents begin to fall in love with the use of technology, the teacher's work becomes simpler because there will be continuity at home and we will be able to receive feedback from parents or guardians. This is one aspect I am really working on, encouraging parents to have computers at home with internet access so that they will be able to communicate with school. I can really do better with more responses from parents on our blog site; then I would have loved to give more homework to my students with the use of technology but some of the parents still don't have computers.
Your plan is truly a great one.

  3. Hi Nicole,

I commented on your post yesterday, and I am not sure what happened to my comment, so I will re-post. I think that it is fabulous that you have educated parents about technology that is available to students. That is part of the GAME Plan that I have developed for myself. It would be my hope that parents would encourage their children to utilize educational technology instead of various video and computer games that are not educational. I truly believe that half the "battle" is making sure that parents are educated about the resources that are available and further how those resources can positively impact their children.

You mentioned the use of a technology curriculum in your post. Do you have a specific curriculum or simply follow the state/ national technology standards? Either way, I commend you for your commitment to fostering a twenty-first century learning environment. Best of luck to you!
